Geo Ong: Rising Filipino Rap Star Talks Passion, Music, and the Art of Rhyme

Rap music has been an essential part of the music industry. From Salbakuta to Andrew E to Gloc 9, rap has arguably inspired the current generation of Tagalog rappers to place much more emphasis on multi-syllable rhyme schemes, punchlines, and metaphors than ever before. With the emergence of several new Filipino rappers, including Abra, Loonie, Pio Balbuena, Batas, Dello, and Anygma, this fresh wave of music is expected to continue gaining momentum in the coming years.

Get to Know Geo Ong

Don Angelo Villaver Ong, better known as Geo Ong, was born on March 15 in Puerto Princesa, Palawan. Raised by his parents, Elsa and Angelito Ong, Geo began his journey into music as a freelance rapper just two years ago. Since then, he’s made appearances on platforms like Net25, Master Showman, Pinas FM, Barangay LS, and Rap Sessions. After his recent performance, we had the opportunity to sit down with him for a quick interview.

SCM: Tell me about your song "Apoy"

SCM: Story behind your song "Samantha"

GEO: "Samantha naman is a song na akala nila may tinutukoy ako or meron talagang Samantha.
